
Jan Sebastian Bach
Born March 21/31, 1685 in Eisenach, died July 28, 1750 in Leipzig. German composer and organist, active in the Baroque period. He composed works for organ and harpsichord, fugues, choral music, and chamber music. Over 1,000 of his works were cataloged in the 20th century by Wolfgang Schmieder (Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis catalog, abbreviated BWV).
